Where our Army adventure and life together began
Hello, and welcome! If you are here chances are that you already know me on some level, but for the sake of appearances I’d like to give you some background info. I am the mom of two boys, an Army spouse of 11 years, a lover of books and coffee, and a hater of being cold. I was born and raised in Alaska and am a mountain snob. In my 11 year adventure of being married to an active duty soldier I have lived in 6 states and 7 houses. I have an art degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage and enjoy painting when I can find the time (hah!). I love to bake and often wonder if I missed my calling in life to be a pastry chef. I am not a morning person, but somehow birthed two tiny people who begin talking the moment their eyes open for the day. This is where my love of coffee comes in handy.
The name of my blog – Shallow Roots – draws on the sense of transiency involved with so much moving and change. We have always tried to make the best of wherever we have ended up, but starting new is never easy. At each new location I have always tried to find a place in the local community and to put down roots, even if they are shallow and temporary. Even if your roots are able to grow deeply and you have to painfully pull them back up after a short amount of time, shouldn’t you still allow them to grow while you can?
The purpose of this blog will be to chronicle my thoughts and feelings on day to day life, parenting, and the adventures of being part of a military family.

I enjoyed reading these! ❤️
Miss you Sweet Friend!
